Man arrested after attempted contraband drop at Washington State Prison, investigation underway

On December 28, deputies and DOC personnel were alerted about a potential trespasser at the Washington State Prison.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A man was arrested after an attempted contraband drop at Washington State Prison on Saturday, according to Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran.

On December 28, deputies and DOC personnel were alerted about a potential trespasser at the Washington State Prison.

A GDC K9 team found the suspect 26-year-old Jerry Norman III. Norman was found in possession of contraband intended for the prison.

Norman is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, trading with inmates, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a schedule 2 controlled substance with intent to distribute. He also is charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, trading with inmates, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and conspiracy to commit a felony from a previous investigation dealing with an attempted contraband drop.

Sheriff Joel Cochran released the following statement:

“The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Department of Corrections remain committed to working together to prevent the delivery of illegal contraband at Washington State Prison, ensuring the safety of both the community and the prison environment.”
