Memorial door available for signing December 31 to January 10 at 690 Holt Avenue in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon Area Habitat for Humanity is inviting the community to honor the late President Jimmy Carter by signing a memorial door at their office to pay tribute to his profound impact on affordable housing initiatives.
The memorial door, which a news release called “a symbol of the homes and lives he helped build and a space for us to come together and reflect,” will be available for signing from December 31, 2024, to January 10, 2025, at 690 Holt Avenue in Macon during office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The office will be closed on New Year’s Day.
“President and Mrs. Carter left an incredible legacy of service through their work with Habitat for Humanity,” Executive Director of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity Ivey Hall said. “They put their words into action and worked alongside homeowners and volunteers to build over 4,000 Habitat homes, changing the lives of families for generations.”
The memorial is part of a tribute by Habitat for Humanity organizations worldwide, reflecting on Carter’s nearly four decades of service with the organization. During his lifetime, President Carter, alongside his wife Rosalynn, helped countless families achieve the dream of safe and affordable housing.
“President Carter’s contributions to Habitat for Humanity are among the most vital to our organization,” CEO of Habitat for Humanity International Jonathan Reckford said. “He opened doors of opportunity for families worldwide, and all of us at Habitat have been honored and humbled to work alongside him. We were truly blessed to have his support, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Carter family.”
Macon Area Habitat also invites the public to visit habitat.org to sign the official online memory book and view Habitat for Humanity’s global tribute to President Carter.
The community room at Macon Area Habitat was dedicated to Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter in October during Habitat Week to celebrate Carter’s 100th birthday.
