GDC reports second Middle Georgia inmate death this week

The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has confirmed Macon State Prison inmate Anthony Knight died on Tuesday, December 10.

OGLETHORPE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has confirmed Macon State Prison inmate Anthony Knight died on Tuesday, December 10.

GDC Director of Communications Joan Heath tells 41NBC Knight’s body will be turned over to the county coroner and will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab to determine the official cause of death.

“The death is being investigated by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards, as standard procedure,” Heath wrote in an email on Saturday. “However, additional details are not available, as the investigation is ongoing.”

Knight was serving 20 years for aggravated assault out of Columbia County with a maximum release date of February 2031.

It’s the second inmate death GDC has confirmed this week. Leon Kelly was killed at Macon’s Central State Prison on December 9.
