Decision 2024: Anissa Jones elected to House District 143
Anissa Jones will serve in Georgia's House District 143 seat after defeating Barbara Boyer.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Anissa Jones will serve in Georgia’s House District 143 seat after defeating Barbara Boyer.
The Democratic candidate is a big advocate for economic development and infrastructure changes, as well as public safety. As a small business owner, economic development is important to Jones.
Jones has been on several boards in Macon and Middle Georgia. At her home and business in Macon, Jones spoke about what it means to win this election.
“It feels amazing,” she said. “It’s a long time coming. I’m so excited about the results and thank you to all the people here in Middle Georgia that had the confidence in me to go out and vote for me. I’m so excited to be your house representative in District House 143. I’m to tears almost.”
Jones went on to speak about what she plans to do her first day in office.
“Always priority number one is economic development,” she said. “We got to get some new industries here in central Georgia to meet the demand. We have a lot of people here that are not making enough money to really take care of their family, so that is a big interest for me here in the city. Of course, other things that are so important for our community is to make sure we have public safety, and of course our infrastructure needs to be taken care of. Mental health is very important to me. We have a homeless issue here in Macon that we have to address. We have to make sure folks have the resources that they need to get better so they can become productive. Health disparities among disenfranchised folks is something that I am passionate about because I am a doctor, so I get to hear those stories in my office each day. We want to make sure people have access to affordable health care, as well as make sure women have the rights to do whatever they want to do with their own bodies.”
Jones is grateful for the support in this election.
“It’s great to see women stepping up to become public servants here in the state of Georgia, and I’m so proud to be amongst that number. I want to say thank you so much just for having that vote of confidence in me to do what we did tonight because this is a ‘we’ win, not a ‘me’ win. We did this together.”
