Gwen Walz speaks at campaign event, knocks on doors in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Gwen Walz, the wife of Minnesota Governor and Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee Tim Walz, made a campaign stop in Macon on Thursday.
Speaking to voters at the Triangle Business Center, Walz made the case for her husband and Vice President Kamala Harris.
“They’ve both spent their entire careers fighting for middle class families, like the ones they grew up in,” Walz said. “Their upbringing taught them the value of a hard day’s work.”
Walz, a former English teacher, compared the election to a group project. She says knocking on doors and phone banking will help the Harris-Walz ticket win Georgia. She knocked on doors and spoke to supporters herself after her remarks.
“It’s due in just five days,” Walz said. “And it is pass-fail. It is crunch time. We have come too far, and we have worked too hard to stop now.”
Jaylan Scott, the Chair of the Macon-Bibb Democratic Committee, says Bibb County is an important factor in statewide races, but often forgotten about during election season. He says the Harris campaign has made a concerted effort to change that during this cycle.
“Normally here in Georgia, people only focus on Atlanta, we only focus on Savannah, we only focus on the big areas,” Scott said.
Scott called early voting turnout encouraging, saying the numbers look better than this time in 2020, when Georgia flipped blue in the presidential race. He says Bibb County has a significant role to play in determining the outcome of races down the ballot.
“Georgia’s a battleground, but we are in a battleground, in a battleground,” Scott said.
