Sheriff: Suspect found dead after Crawford County shooting

It happened Saturday in Crawford County, according to a news release from the sheriff.

ROBERTA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A woman was taken to the hospital after being shot on Saturday, and the suspect was found dead.

That’s according to a news release from Crawford County Sheriff Lewis Walker.

Just before 10:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a call about a person being shot on Marble Lane, the release said. Deputies arrived and found 25-year-old Makayla Hollingshed had been shot. She was taken to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition.

The suspect, 31-year-old Tommie Lee Alexander, fled the scene. Deputies say a lead later led Crawford County deputies to Fairplay Hill Road, where they found Alexander dead from “an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Alexander was pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner Sheldon Mattox.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate.
