Wayne County Football Team Steps Up To Help Community After Hurricane Helene

PERRY, Georgia – (41NBC/WMGT) – The Perry community came together Monday afternoon to help Wayne County.  The Wayne County football team was scheduled to host the Perry Panthers in a Region 1-AAAA game. However, due to the damage left from Hurricane Helene, this region game was rescheduled to Monday in Perry at Herb St. John Stadium.

So, with all the student athletes have gone through, the Perry community stepped in to help. Pastor Michael Stovall of Cross Point Perry decided to help the Wayne County football team with a home cooked meal at the Church before the game Monday afternoon. After the meal, Perry residents lined the parking lot to give the Yellow Jackets team a proper send off before their game at the Panther Pit, like one they would receive from their fans, friends, and families if this were a home game for them.

After the send off, Pastor Stovall spoke about why he felt obligated to help.  “Life gets complicated and we are just here to help” said Stovall Monday afternoon.  “We don’t get to pick how life gets complicated, we just get to step in and serve how we can.  So, we were honored to be able to step in.  I want to thank Coach [John] Mohring (Wayne County Football Head Coach) for allowing Cross Point to provide a pregame meal this afternoon for the Yellow Jackets ahead of tonight’s game.  What a wonderful opportunity to meet these coaches and these players, and to hear their stories, and to just be apart of what’s going on there.”
