Dublin School Gives High School Dropouts a Second Chance

Moore Street School in Dublin offers a GED program for students who want another shot at a high school diploma.

Principal Emory Bostic says, “Oconee Fall Line Technical College provides the instructors, they provide the computer equipment, and we bring the students.”

Bostic knows you can’t get far without schooling, and so do his students.

17-year-old Terrence Wilson says, “Without an education you wouldn’t really have anything to stand on, you need an education now just to get a job anywhere.”

Wilson and his classmates Trae Godfrey and Charles Anderson all realize the importance of having an education and decided to ‘drop in’ to get their GED.

“They’ve got lots of potential, every one of them,” says teacher Roger Byrd.

“If it weren’t for this program I’d probably be out on the street doing something that I don’t have any business doing,” says Anderson.

The ‘drop in’ program began in January 2011. There are currently 10 students enrolled. Dublin City Schools receives no credit for housing the program.
