Mayor Miller declares state of emergency for Macon-Bibb County due to Hurricane Helene

Macon-Bibb County under hurricane warning as Mayor Lester Miller urges residents to prepare for the impact of Hurricane Helene.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- In response to the expected impacts of Hurricane Helene, Mayor Lester Miller has declared a Local State of Emergency for Macon-Bibb County beginning on Thursday, September 26, 2024. The declaration comes as the county is placed under a Hurricane Warning due to the approaching storm.

Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Spencer Hawkins has activated operations under the county’s Local Emergency Operation Plan to coordinate response efforts and ensure public safety.

“I want our community to take this seriously and take the precautions needed,” Mayor Miller urged. “Please check on your neighbors and stay safe.”

Macon-Bibb County officials are closely monitoring the storm, which is expected to bring high winds, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding to the region. Residents are strongly encouraged to finalize their emergency plans and stay informed through official updates.
