Bibb County School Hallways Full of Students for Another Year

7:40a.m.

The bell rings, and students are in their seats at Bloomfield Middle School in Macon.

“I’m excited man,” rookie teacher Michael Scott says. Scott just graduated from Mercer University, and is going to teach band and music to the kids. He’s ready for the new year to get underway.

“I’m interested in seeing how things play out for the school year, but I anticipate a very successful year.”

The halls of Bloomfield are very quiet. Maybe it has something to do with the “Quiet” road signs hanging in every hallway, maybe it’s because the teachers have the students’ complete attention.

Despite being the first day of class, with rules and guidelines from the teacher, the eighth graders here have something else on their mind.

High School.

Five students wanted to talk about the new year. Five students said the same thing…they’re ready for high school.

But the kids in class sit attentively, and even though some are ready to move on, eighth graders like Braxton Williams know it’s all about the hard work. Williams wants to be a cardiologist when he grows up.

“The human body, and the heart. Definetly one of the things…the organ I want to learn how it works, how it beats. It’s just one small thing inside your body, but it controls everything,” Williams says.

With another year under way in Bibb County, the students and teachers settle in for books, pencils, and learning.
