UPDATE: Arrest made in connection with deadly September shooting at Macon gas station

A man is in custody in connection with the shooting death of Tavarus Hunter last month.

UPDATE (10/21/24): A man is in custody in connection with the shooting death of Tavarus Hunter last month.

According to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release, 42-year-old Roy Deon Thornton III was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals.

He’s charged with murder and is being held without bond.

Also Monday, deputies said Thornton was charged in connection with a decomposed body found in east Macon last month.


UPDATE (9/23/24): According to Coroner Leon Jones, Tavarus Hunter was pronounced dead at Atrium Health Navicent on September 23. The next of kin has been notified.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting is still under investigation. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was found shot overnight at a gas station near downtown Macon.

According to a news release, deputies were called to Exxon, located at 36 Spring Street, just after 1 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a person down.

Deputies arrived and found a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
