The Twiggs County School District has postponed all after-school events for Tuesday, including the softball game against Wilkinson County.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Twiggs County School District has postponed all after-school events for Tuesday, including the softball game against Wilkinson County.

“The new date will be communicated to the schools and the community once finalized,” a Facebook post stated.

The decision follows the discovery of ammunition in a student’s vehicle and an unsubstantiated social media threat.

According to a news release release, law enforcement officers conducting a routine security check of the student parking lot found ammunition and hunting accessories in a student’s vehicle. The student was escorted to the main office, and all items were secured by campus police with the help of the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office No firearms were found. The district says disciplinary action was taken in line with the Student Code of Conduct and Georgia state laws. School operations resumed within the hour.

In a separate matter, the district addressed an unsubstantiated threat that circulated on social media, alleging a potential school shooting involving a student’s parent.

After further investigation, it has been determined that the list in question is actually a compilation of Title I Schools that are being provided with schoolwide and targeted academic assistance from the Georgia Department of Education copied directly from the Georgia Department of Education website,” a district Facebook post stated. “This is a list of academically supported Title I schools along with their unique school identification numbers, which can be found on the Georgia Department of Education webpage.

“Anyone found to be responsible for threats and/or hoaxes will be charged and disciplined in accordance with the Official Code of Georgia and the Student Code of Conduct,” the post stated.
