UPDATE (5:30 p.m.) – Crews are making progress after a water main break shut down county buildings Monday morning. According to the City of Forsyth, the broken water line needs heavy duty supplies and roughly nine feet of pipe must be replaced.

Before crews could get started on repairs, they needed heavy duty couplings to hold up the damaged pipe. To keep the pipe in place, a bed of #57 stone will be placed underneath. That’s according to a social media post from the City of Forsyth. Officials say those materials have already been sourced and repairs could be done as early as 6 p.m. on Monday.

So far, the city says service has been restored to the Bunn Road interconnection and the water plant is running at full capacity.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The city of Forsyth issues a boil water advisory after a water main break shut down multiple county offices.

Around 7:25 a.m. Monday, the City of Forsyth issued a boil water advisory for residents in the west and northwest side of town. The Monroe County Board of Commissioners added in their own post that several county buildings will be closed due to a water outage. According to the city, both issues stem from a broken water main.

Affected buildings include but are not limited to:

  • Administration Building
  • Courthouse
  • Senior Center
  • Head Start
  • Extension Office
  • Workforce Development
  • Health Department
  • Water Department
  • Animal Services
  • Library

In a social media post, the city said a water department crew is working to repair the broken 12-inch water main on Willis Drive. Officials did not initially  give an estimate for when repairs will be complete, although the city did warn it could be a lengthy process. Comments on Monday’s announcement show some residents are frustrated with ongoing water issues in Forsyth. One commenter pointing to recent disruptions on July 9 and  July 23.

On July 9, in the Brookwood subdivision, residents were advised to flush their faucets until the water ran clear. According to the City of Forsyth, this issue was caused by construction of new water lines, not repairs. Then on, July 23, a precautionary boil water notice was put in place during repairs to a water main in the Jackson Heights Subdivision.

In June, the City of Forsyth asked residents to limit outdoor water use after high demand and dry conditions depleted the city’s reserves.

During Monday’s water outage, Forsyth officials encouraged residents to follow CDC guidelines until the city lifts its boil water advisory.

If you have questions about the advisory, call the City of Forsyth at (478) 994-5649 or (478) 994-7010 after normal business hours.
