MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Strong winds will be dominant around Middle Georgia Wednesday afternoon courtesy of high pressure off the east coast and low pressure in the Gulf.

This Evening

It’s already been a bit breezy around Middle Georgia with brisker winds becoming more noticeable overnight. This will remain the case through tonight as east-southeast winds come in at 5-12 mph, gusting over 20 mph into tonight and over 15 mph through the overnight hours. Skies overhead will be populated with scattered cirrus clouds as temperatures drop into the mid to upper 60s. Rain is unlikely this evening or tonight.

Tomorrow

Winds around Middle Georgia will be rather strong from the east as they range from 10-17 mph and gust over 25 mph throughout the afternoon. This is courtesy of Potential Tropical Cyclone One lurking off the eastern coast of Mexico as well as a powerful area of high pressure camped off the US East Coast. These winds are expected regardless of whether or not PTC One gets a name (Alberto) or not.

Skies will be partly sunny as highs reach the lower 90s for most of the region. A shower or two will be possible in the afternoon and evening as well.

Overnight it will remain breezy with easterly winds coming in at 7-13 mph, gusting upwards of 20 mph. Low temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 60s again as scattered clouds hang overhead.

Thursday and Beyond

Thursday will still be a bit breezy and mild as highs stay in the lower 90s, however temperatures will begin to climb Friday as the wind slows with PTC One moving over Mexico by that point. Pop up storms will also become more widespread starting Friday and even more so into the weekend. Those storms will be nice as highs return to the upper 90s during that timeframe.
