Bibb County School District Buys Seven New Buses for Special Education Students

In an effort to ease transportation issues within the Bibb County School District, seven new school buses have been added to the fleet.

The buses are on display at Central High School, where the final ‘bells and whistles’ are being installed. Each bus will have high-definition video cameras, and a live G.P.S. tracking system.

They also will be equipped with air conditioning, wheelchair lifts, and wheelchair securement bays.

The buses also boast an eco-friendly exhaust system, the first of its kind in middle Georgia. The system uses an ammonia-like substance mixed with the fuel and water, to produce an emission much like water vapor.

The district’s Director of Transportation, Todd Harris, says the new buses are a must have, to help the entire fleet run more efficiently.

“This will give us a larger spare fleet…we’ve got more vehicles to work out of,” Harris says. 

The buses were paid in full by using state bond money allocated to the district, as well as the Education SPLOST. The bus engines and bodies were manufactured at the Blue Bird manufacturing facility in Fort Valley.
