The Macon Volunteer Clinic building new facility in downtown, will serve more patients

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Volunteer Clinic (MVC) is set to undergo a transformation with renovations of a new facility in downtown Macon.
After over 20 years at its current location on Rogers Avenue, the clinic is moving to a new facility, providing more services to uninsured individuals and catering to a larger number of patients.
“It’s an opportunity for us to come downtown to be part of the excitement here. We’re going from about a 4,000 thousand square foot building to an 11,000 square foot building,” said John McCard, Executive Director of Macon Volunteer Clinic.
With the expansion, MVC aims to extend its reach to underserved counties in the Middle Georgia.
“We’re looking at expanding to another seven or eight counties that aren’t served by a medical clinic like ours. So we’re very excited about being down here to be more centrally located,” McCard explained.
The new facility will not only accommodate more patients, but also offer additional services to uninsured individuals.
“There’s a whole host of people who are in the middle. They can be anything from restaurant service workers to various folks around our county. And so this is a really important ability to have them access health care, both preventive as well as treatment,” explained Doctor Gary Bernstein, the Chief Medical Officer at Piedmont Macon Hospitals and a board member of Macon Volunteer Clinic.
The clinic aims to have the new facility operational by next summer. Until then, the Rogers Avenue location will remain operational.
While the clinic has raised $1 million so far, it’s seeking support from the community to reach its $2.5 million goal. As part of their fundraising efforts, MVC has partnered with Panda Express for a special fundraising event.
When ordering a meal online or through the app, you can contribute to the new MVC center by using the fundraiser code “9-2-2-3-2-3” at checkout. 28 percent of the proceeds from allocated orders will go to the Macon Volunteer Clinic.
