Macon Council Approves $74 Million Budget

Macon City Council approved its 2012 budget Tuesday night. The budget means no tax increases for residents. The $74 million budget was approved unanimously.

Council voted to move more than $120,000 to unallocated reserves. The money will come from getting rid of the city’s lobbyist in Washington, D.C.

City Council is still deciding how much money will go into the Fire and Police Departments, and leaders say they will hold a special called meeting to discuss details soon.

Council member Lauren Benedict says is pleased with the outcome.

“There’s no furloughs planned in the budget. [It] Looks like we are going to be able to provide the services to the citizens using the revenue that’s scheduled to come in through sales taxes and property taxes and other forms of revenue through fees.”

The Budget will go into effect July 1.
