GMC Prep School wins state literacy championship for 9th straight year
Georgia Military College Prep school is celebrating its 9th straight State Literacy Championship.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Georgia Military College Prep school is celebrating its 9th straight State Literacy Championship.
“The dedication and hard work of our students continue to amaze us year after year,” Fine Arts Director LTC Mark Weaver said.
According to a GMC news release, the State Literary Championship, held earlier this month, is a highly competitive event that showcases the best literary talent from high schools across Georgia. The event consists of 12 categories: Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, International Extemporaneous Speaking, Solo Humorous Literary Interpretation, Solo Dramatic Literary Interpretation, Duo Literary Interpretation, Argumentative Essay, Personal Essay, Literary Analysis Essay, Boys Solo, Girls Solo, Trio, and Quartet.
GMC Prep students earned several awards. To secure the team win, all students placed in all categories:
- Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking – Brian Sherwood, State Champ
- International Extemporaneous Speaking – Shriyansh Parekh, State Champ
- Solo Humorous Literary Interpretation – Emerson Ivey, State Champ
- Solo Dramatic Literary Interpretation – Nikki Knight, State Champ
- Duo Literary Interpretation –Alexis Waldroup and Nikki Knight, State Champs
- Argumentative Essay – William Steinfeld, State Champ
- Personal Essay – Emma Kate Godin, 3rd
- Literary Analysis Essay – Caden Loyd, State Champs
- Boys Solo- Luke Ivey, 3rd
- Girls Solo- Emerson Ivey, State Champs
- Trio- Emerson Ivey, Jacie Hartzog, Abigail Johnson, State Champs
- Quartet- Luke Ivey, Grady Meier, Maddox Raburn, Jude Raburn, 3rd
GMC says Emerson Ivey and Nikki Knight showcased outstanding leadership and talent, accumulating an impressive number of state championships throughout their high school careers.
Emerson Ivey has 13 State Championships including: Girls Solo (22, 23, 24,) Humorous (24,) Trio (23, 24,) Literary Team (21, 22, 23, 24,) One Act Play (21, 22, 23.)
Nikki Knight has 11 State Championships including: One Act Play (21, 22, 23,) Literary Team (22, 22, 23, 24,) Dramatic Interpretation (23, 24,) Humorous (22,) Duo Interpretation (24.)
