Johnson County baseball wins big in regional game after Sunday night’s fire
JoCo Baseball beats Wilkinson 10-0 in six innings in a 1A D-II Area 5 Region game after scoring eight runs in the bottom of the sixth

WRIGHTSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Johnson County baseball played at home Tuesday night in front of what was just a fire at their press box/concessions stand behind home plate.
The fire happened Sunday night and the facility is totally destroyed. Not to mention it also destroyed all of the backup hats and athletic equipment in storage within the building.
However the team still had to play, and the community came together to support their Trojans.
After being up 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth from one run in the bottom of the third, and one in the fifth, the Trojans riled off eight straight runs in the bottom of the sixth to win 10-0 in six innings.
41NBC spoke with Senior Third Basemen and Pitcher for the Trojans Barrett Wombles about the win in front of community that has shown support.
“Its definitely extra motivation for sure” said Wombles.
“Like I said earlier, just having the whole community behind us, it makes you want to play. It makes you want to play for your hometown. We come from a small town of Wrightsville, Georgia and these boys, I mean look, they are out here working now, we will be out here working tomorrow. Our goal is to go and win as many games as we can. It hurts not having that, being that is the newest facility, and we used it and we enjoyed it, but at the same time, you still got to come work, you got to do what you got to do. I’m just thankful to have what we got. It could have been worse. It can always be worse. We got a field, we got dugouts, we can play ball. That’s all there is.”
The Trojans and Warriors meet again at Wilkinson on Thursday at 4 p.m.
