Middle Georgians Celebrate July 4th at Lake Tobesofkee

Hundreds of people came out to Lake Tobesofkee today to beat the heat and celebrate the holiday. Tressie Brown’s daughter shares America’s birthday, and she still remembers the day she was born.

“When Heather was born 17 years ago she came out like a firecracker… The day she was born I remember thinking, how blessed we are to live in a free country. We can go to church, we can pray freely, we have political freedom here in this state, and that she grew up here.”

With their toes in the sand, families and beach goers celebrated living in the United States of America.

“It’s about the sacrifices our troops have made in order to be able to do this and be free. It’s about the freedom to enjoy yourself, and just be among friends and enjoy the day,” says Jimmy Barnett, Macon.

“It’s a great country, it was founded by great men, and we need to make sure our young ones know the true meaning of freedom and liberty and the Fourth of July,” says Beth Smith, Warner Robins.

As the sun set over Lake Tobesofkee, people on the beach enjoyed the annual fireworks display over Sandy Beach.
