Bibb County School System Says Goodbye to Long-Time Teacher and Mentor

A special ceremony was held Tuesday night for Sylvia McGee, a 35-year veteran for the Bibb County school system.

The retirement party was a way for family and friends of McGee to wish her well. The group gathered at Central High School, where McGee graduated. At that time, Central High School was called A.L. Miller High School for Girls. She was in the final class before the school changed names.

McGee has held many positions throughout her career with the school system, including Interim Superintendent, Director of Student Support, and Deputy Superintendent of Student Support Services. 

McGee says she didn’t want to have a retirement party, but family and friends said she really should.

She also said she is happy with the things she was able to do for the school system.

“It has been challenging, it has been fun, it has been rewarding, and now I find myself being able to bring closure to it. And I feel good about what has happened in that time, from 1976 to the present,” McGee says.
