“Pour One More” to Celebrate June Dairy Month
This month marks the 74th anniversary of June Dairy Month. To celebrate, the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association is asking you to “Pour One More.” Tonight on the 41NBC news at 6pm, Registered Dietitian with the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Betsy Dietsch, and 3rd generation dairy farmer with Green Glades Farm, Inc. out of Eatonton, Heck Davis, were in with details.
Dietsch says Americans are over eating, but they’re under nourished. She suggests dairy can help change that trend. The Southeast United Dairy Industry Association says it’s important to get three servings daily of low-fat and fat-free dairy foods for bone health. Dietsch tells us milk provides three of the four nutrients of concern and ranks as the number one food source for calcium, vitamin D and potassium.
Easy ways to get your three servings include: pouring milk into your cereal in the morning, adding milk to your coffee and treating yourself to a milk-based smoothie when you’re on the go.

Dairy Farmer, Heck Davis, began farming in 1951. He has about 300 cows that he takes care of with his children. The heat and lack of rain have taken a toll on the Green Glades Farm, Inc. Davis uses about 1,000 of gallons a water a minute right now to keep his crops growing and cows cool, totaling nearly 1 million gallons a day.
