MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The system that has brought the Peach State plenty of rain the past few days will finally clear out tonight.

The Rest of the Evening

Middle Georgia has received more than its fair share of rain over the past 48 hour. Most of the region received between 3 and 4 inches, resulting in widespread flash flooding this morning. River levels will rise in the coming days as a result of this rain as well, so look for river flood alerts in the near future.

This evening a few showers and perhaps a thunderstorm or two will remain possible, but rain activity will continue to dwindle as the night goes on. Winds this evening will shift from the southeast towards the west at 10-20 mph, gusting upwards of 30 mph. Overnight they will settle out of the west-northwest, gusting between 30 and 40 mph. Temperatures are expected to bottom out in the lower 40s and upper 30s tomorrow morning, however wind chills could push towards the lower 30s.

Tomorrow

While cloud cover will likely still be widespread around sunrise, it should clear out by lunchtime for most of the region. Sunny skies will remain the rest of the afternoon. Highs will only reach into the upper 50s with wind coming in at 5-17 mph from the northwest, gusting upwards of 25 mph.

Tomorrow night will be clear and cold with lows dropping towards the freezing point. Winds will be much calmer from the north-northwest at around 5-10 mph.

Valentines Day and Beyond

Wednesday will be a pleasant and sunny one for the romantic holiday with very little wind to worry about thanks to high pressure passing over the Peach State. Temperatures will reach the low to mid 60s in the afternoon before falling around the freezing point by Thursday morning.

A few more clouds are likely Thursday as temperatures warm even more. The weekend again looks cloudy, however rain chances look to be lower and temperatures will be cooler, likely leading to a a scenario with a few showers.
