40% of Georgia Children Overweight, Help Make a Difference
Georgia is ranked number two in the country for childhood obesity. In Macon alone, Community Health Works reports 57,000 children are overweight or obese. President of Community Health Works, Greg Dent, joined us Tuesday on the 41NBC news at 6pm to talk about these statistics and invite you to a free event aimed to help reverse some of those numbers.
Dent attributes the states obesity problem among to children to way of life, like eating habits. He says parents can motivate their children by helping them stay active and make healthy food choices.
Community Health Works and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta are teaming up to promote Strong4Life Unplugged. This is a program that focuses on bringing nutrition, support, activity and fun to young people’s lives.
Saturday you’re invited to bring your family to the Strong4Life event at Central City Park in downtown Macon from 10am-2pm. You can participate in healthy cooking demonstrations, relay races, obstacle courses and more!
Everyday Georgia’s youth should be getting physical activity, but this type of event it a great starting point. For more information about the event and resources to start talking about childhood obesity visit www.strong4life.com
