Georgia Teacher of the Year Visits 41NBC

The 2012 Teacher of the Year is a Bibb County educator. Jadun McCarthy is an English Teacher at Northeast High School. He joined us tonight on the news at 6pm to talk about his experience so far.

Mr. McCarthy was named the Georgia Teacher or the Year Friday at a banquet in Atlanta with the nine other finalists in attendance. Even when McCarthy heard his name announced he tells us he was in disbelief!

Mr. McCarthy’s students and colleagues have sung his praises, and I asked Mr. McCarthy why he thinks he deserved to win this award and he humbly said he is still surprised.

Beginning in July, Mr. McCarthy will be an ambassador for teachers. He will eventually head to the White House for the National Teacher of the Year competition…let’s keep our fingers crossed!
