MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Another warm front-cold front combo could bring some severe weather to Middle Georgia Friday afternoon.

The Rest of the Evening

It will be another chilly evening around Middle Georgia as a wedge of cold and dry air lingers over much of Georgia and the Carolinas. Low temperatures should occur sometime after midnight in the lower 40s and upper 30s. Winds will come from the south-southeast at around 5-10 mph. Cloud cover will remain limited most of the night before filling in quickly ahead of sunrise tomorrow.

Tomorrow

A mostly cloudy day is likely with some showers early. Storms will likely begin to go during the early lunchtime hours as the cold front approaches. Temperatures should climb into the mid to upper 60s across the region with winds from the south-southeast shifting towards the southwest through the afternoon. These winds will range from 10-25 mph with gusts pushing over 40 mph.

The SPC has dropped the severe risk from a Level 3 to a Level 2 “Slight” risk for the entire region. This is largely due to the aforementioned wedge of cold air which could mitigate storms. Still, one or two severe storms and the risk for an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Hail will also be possible with the more intense storms. Given that a line of storms is not anticipated with this system, the straight-line wind threat will be reduced.

Storm activity should clear the region between 7 and 9 pm with clearing skies taking over after. Winds will come from the west at about 10-20 mph with gusts still pushing over 30 mph as temperatures drop into the mid 30s.
