Holiday Travelers Urged To Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) is reminding drivers to be sober during the holiday’s.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 40% of people killed in crashes in Georgia during the Christmas holidays from 2017 to 2021 involved a drunk driver. They say 75% of those people killed in the alcohol-involved crashes during that same time frame, had a driver whose blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

“If you decide to drink and drive, you can lose your privilege to drive,” said Lt. Maurice Raines with the Georgia State Patrol.

To combat those traffic deaths, the GOHS is offering a $20 Lyft credit if you’ve had too much to drink.

The offer is good right now, through January 1 at 6 p.m.
