Library of Congress 18-Wheeler Exhibit Rolls Into Warner Robins

Sitting in the back parking lot of the Nola Brantley Memorial Library is a big rig unlike any other. This one expands to be 30 feet wide, with a double-wide stairway leading into a climate controlled trailer.

Inside the ‘Gateway to Knowledge’ trailer are  facsimiles, or reproductions, of historic items found in the Library of Congress.

The free exhibit features copies of works like the 1455 Gutenberg Bible, the rough draft of the Declaration of Independence, and the 1962 drawings for the comic book that introduced Spider-Man.

Abigail Van Gelder is one of two people who travel across the country with the truck.

“What we’ve used inside are graphic reproductions and facsimiles, in order to make everything in there very hands-on. It’s very kid friendly, and very family friendly.”

The purpose of the unique trailer is to share what the Library of Congress is about and what it has to offer. The trailer is making stops in small towns, and stays in each town for only two days at a time.

The exhibit is only in Warner Robins through Wednesday afternoon. It is open from 10:00a.m. until 6:00p.m.
