84-year-old woman hospitalized after assault, attempted robbery in Macon Dollar General parking lot

The sheriff's office says it happened just before 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dollar General store located at 2797 Emery Highway.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – An 84-year-old woman is recovering in the hospital after being assaulted in an attempted robbery in the parking lot of a Dollar General Thursday night.

It happened just before 5:30 in the parking lot of Dollar General, located at 2797 Emery Highway, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies were told the woman was approaching her vehicle when three “late teen males,” wearing all black, approached her and tried to take her keys. She refused to give them up, and one of the suspects began striking her, causing injuries.

That’s when multiple other people intervened, and the suspects ran away.

The woman was taken to Piedmont Macon Hospital and is listed in stable condition.
