68 year-old man says learning is a form of exercise
MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – He wanted to exercise his brain.
Jorge Mulhall graduated from Georgia Military College as the oldest graduate in history.
“After I retired, I was either going to go into gardening or do something for my brain, so I wanted to keep it an exercise,” Mulhall said. “There’s always space to learn, you know we don’t know everything.”
He decided to go to school after retiring as the Director of Human Resources of Toyota in Brazil.
“As a company policy at the age of 60, I retired. And learning was the best bet, so here I am,” he said.
Mulhall says he believes that age is nothing but a number. He says learning is good exercise for you brain.
“If you just lay around watching TV, it’s not gonna get you anywhere. You know its like a nail in a coffin,” Mulhall said. “I didn’t come here to pass. I came here to learn and that’s why the grades were just a consequence of that.”
Mulhall says learning is something that he always wants to do. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science and graduated with a 3.5 GPA.
Mulhall plans on continuing his education. His ultimate goal is to receive his PHD.
