41NBC’s 2013 Year in Review

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – As 2013 comes to a close, 41NBC wanted to take a look back at some of the big stories we covered this year across Middle Georgia.

It was tough narrowing down the choices, but our staff picked ten big stories we brought to you this year.

The Macon police involved shooting death of Sammie Davis Junior and the controversy that followed topped the list.

We also highlighted the impact of sequestration across Middle Georgia.

The decision to hold Macon-Bibb non-partisan elections sparked a conversation in the community.

41NBC brought you live coverage of the fatal I-16 crash from February. Former Bibb County schools superintendent Dr. Romain Dallemand resigned. The new interim superintendent, Dr. Steve Smith, stepped in to lead the school system and help with the search for a permanent superintendent.

41NBC was on the inaugural Silver Airways flight that flew from the Macon Regional Airport to Orlando, Florida.

We brought you extensive coverage of the first Wilcox County integrated prom which made national headlines.

Unadilla native David Ragan won big during this year’s race at Talladega.

After a 72 year hiatus, Mercer football returned with the Bears’ first win of the season.

And finally, 41NBC was you rplace for Decision 2013 coverage. Warner Robins elected a new mayor, Randy Toms. Fort Valley city councilwoman Barbara Williams upset 16-year incumber John Stumbo and is the new mayor. Macon Mayor Robert Reichert defeated his opponent, C. Jack Ellis, for the Macon-Bibb County top seat and will join the other newly elected leaders as consolidation starts on January 1st.
