3 charged, 1 warning issued after deer beaten in Arkansas

STUTTGART, Ark. (AP) – Arkansas game and fish officials filed complaints against three Georgia men and warned an Arkansas woman after a video showed a deer beaten with an accounting textbook in the back of a vehicle.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said the men put the deer in a vehicle after it was struck along U.S. 165. After it began moving around, one man struck it repeatedly with a textbook. The others laughed as it cried out.

Game officials said the men later dragged the deer from the vehicle and left it in a ditch to die.

The man accused of beating the deer was charged with a misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals and wasting wildlife. Two others were charged with aiding and abetting, and the woman received a warning.
