Milledgeville police officers performing car seat safety checks

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – You can make sure your child’s car seat is properly installed during an event in Milledgeville this week.

The Milledgeville Police Department is looking to bring down the number of deceased children killed in crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Administration, car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13.

MPD Officers will perform safety checks Saturday at the Wal-Mart on North Columbia Street.  The officers have received training and they are certified. They’ll be able to show parents how to determine what size seat is the best fit for each child and how to properly install the seats.

Kids who pledge to wear their seat belt at all times will also receive certificates from officers during the event.

It’s from 8 AM until 12 PM.
