Amazon delays opening of Macon distribution center to 2019

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Amazon distribution center in Macon will now open the the beginning of 2019.

It was set to open this summer, however a representative from Amazon confirms that the hiring and the launch of the center will take place at the beginning of the new year.

Amazon told 41NBC in a statement:

“Full-time employees at the fulfillment center will receive competitive pay and benefits including health insurance from day one, disability insurance, retirement savings plans and company stock. The company also offers up to 20 weeks of paid leave and innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families.Amazon also offers hourly employees its Career Choice program which helps train employees for in-demand jobs at Amazon and other companies so that they can prepare for the future and take full advantage of the nation’s innovation economy. The program pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses in in-demand, high-wage fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a future career at Amazon.” 

The fulfillment center is expected to bring more than 500 jobs to the area.
