Vice President Pence attends rally in Macon supporting Kemp for Governor

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Voters who are looking for Secretary of State Brian Kemp to win the republican race for governor in Georgia, welcomed Vice President Mike Pence to Macon over the weekend.

“Trump and I fully endorse Kemp for governor of the great state of Georgia,” Pence said.

Hundreds of people watched Saturday as Vice President Pence shared his support for Georgia Governor Candidate Brian Kemp during a rally hosted at the Macon Centerplex.

Back in May, a republican candidate did not secure a spot for the November general election, so a run-off between Kemp and Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle was held Tuesday.

“I couldn’t be more proud to stand with a candidate and to service with a president that both stand without apology for the sanctity of human life,” he said.

President Trump announced his support for  Kemp on Twitter last week.

He says Kemp is “though on crime, strong on the border and illegal immigration, loves the military, and protects our Second Amendment.”

“This election is about who you can trust when no one’s watching,” Kemp said.

Some participants at the rally say they decided to support Kemp after learning of the President’s support.

“People are really starting to trust Trump more and more, because he is keeping his word. He’s following through to his word. So I believe it has a definite impact. Especially, here in Georgia because people in Georgia love Trump,” rally participant Stuart Griffin said.

“This four stands for, ask four more people to vote for [Kemp]. So that’s our peace symbol. This is Trump,” Danny Hamilton said.

Earlier this month, 12 Russian Intelligence Officers were indicted for interfering with the 2016 Election.

Voter David McDaniel believes that won’t impact Kemp’s campaign.

“I think something else in a week from now will be the news. That’ll be last week’s soup,” McDaniel said.

Kemp will go against Democrat Stacy Abrahms in November. She is vying to be the first African-American woman to be governor.
