2014 Georgia National Fair kicks off with new attractions and experiences

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s time for the 2014 Georgia National Fair down in Perry, and thousands flocked to the fairgrounds on the first day. 

25 years, and according to officials it keeps getting bigger and better. 

“It’s tradition. It’s a Southern thing and we just come every year,” one visitor said. 

The fair is in full swing and crowds are heading to get a taste of the fried, sweet, and savory goodness that is fair cuisine. 

Officials kicked off the festivities with a ribbon cutting that included Georgia Governor Nathan Deal who says the fair is an economic boost to the state. 

“It’s certainly something that a lot of people look forward to and it’s a time where we see a lot of visitors from out of the area that come to the fair,” Deal said. 

Visitors young and young at heart simply could not wait to pack the place. 

“I have been coming with my husband for the last five years. He’s been coming for 12 years,” one person said. 

“It’s my first time here in 43 years and it’s my first time coming to fair and I’m just excited to be here.”

Staff is ready. Crew is ready. Vendors are too. 

“When you travel to so many of them after so many years, I got certain friends I look forward to seeing when I get here,” one vendor said. 

Visitors say they’re looking forward to several days of fun. 

The 2014 Georgia National Fair is continue until October 12th.
