2014 Georgia National Fair almost breaks attendance record
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Officials with the Georgia National Fairgrounds say 456,023 people came out to the 2014 Georgia National Fair, and officials say that number could have been bigger.
Call it a success, Stacy Campbell sure does.
“Perhaps if it had not rained on our first Friday we would have met or exceeded our largest fair,” Campbell said.
She says the 465,023 people who came to this year’s fair almost set an attendance record.
The largest is still the fair back in 2010.
Even then, Campbell says all of the activities went on without a hitch.
“We had no major public safety incidents. Everybody seemed to have a good time and that’s all that matters,” she said.
As vendors like this one close up shop and get ready to head to the next town. Officials with the fairgrounds say it’s still too early to tally up all of the dollars and cents they’ve made, but this year was one of the best.
So where does the fair go from here?
Campbell says the next planning session is already on the horizon.
“We have fair meetings each month, and then we do move on with our other business which is commercial rental facilities,” she said.
In a little more than a week, fairground staffers are hosting another major event.
So could there be a possibility of more days at the fair next year? Campbell doesn’t think that will happen.
“It’s about as much as our staff can take as well. It’s pretty taxing on the staff and our families to produce this,” she said.
For all early birds looking to get a head start on next year’s fair. Mark your calendars. The 26th annual Georgia National Fair is scheduled for October 8-18, 2015.
