2 men sentenced to prison for bribing military base officials
ALBANY, Georgia (AP) – Two men have been sentenced to federal prison for bribing public officials at a Georgia military base.
Federal prosecutors say Ivan Dwight Brannan of Jupiter, Florida, was sentenced to serve four years. David R. Nelson of Lucedale Mississippi, got two years, followed by three years supervised release for each. Brannan also has to forfeit $120,000, and Nelson must pay a $10,000 fine.
Brannan was an agent and Nelson a driver for a national trucking company. Prosecutors say from 2006 to 2012, the two paid at least $120,000 in bribes to two officials at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany to secure freight-hauling business.
Prosecutors say the officials, Mitchell Potts and Jeffrey Philpot, pleaded guilty in this scheme and another and are serving 10 years and seven years in prison, respectively.
