2 candidates vying for Dublin mayor

The city of Dublin will soon have a new mayor.

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The city of Dublin will soon have a new mayor.

We spoke with the two candidates vying for the position in the upcoming November 2 election.

“I’ve got a vision for our town of having beautiful, safe neighborhoods, thriving businesses, and the way to accomplish that vision is to step into the mayor’s role, hopefully lead this city into the next decade,” Joshua Kight said. Kight was born and raised in Dublin and is currently an attorney and part of the Downtown Development Authority.

Over the last decade, Kight says he’s worked to improve the downtown area by tearing down blighted homes and restoring neighborhoods.

Kight wants to focus on community needs and help lower the crime rate.

“It’s time for us to really focus on making sure that every neighborhood in town enjoys safety for their family and for the kids that are in these neighborhoods,” Kight said.

His overall message is safe neighborhoods, good jobs and strong community.

Jerry Davis is also running for mayor. He too was born and raised in Dublin and is a retired former city councilman. Davis says he wants to take the next step in helping the city grow.

“My overall vision for Dublin is to continue to create jobs,” he said. “Lack of jobs are still a big problem.”

As a councilman, Davis says he played a big role in helping to beautify the city. If elected, he plans to create a litter free environment.

“We have to educate the people that we’re going to do it first,” he said .”We’re going to have a cleanup program, and we have to notify them through social media and through town hall meetings.”

Davis also wants to bring economic and tourism development to the city.

Early voting lasts until October 29. Election day is November 2.
