10 selected to feature on first ever Macon music album

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Some of Macon’s best and brightest musicians are getting the spotlight in an upcoming CD geared toward representing the city’s music. A collaboration between NewTown Macon and a well known local producer triggered the idea. Now ten singers and songwriters will get to spread their passion through the entire city.

It’s the first time in a long time for a unique sound.

“I’m in constant contact with all this amazing talent, and it just felt a shame to me to know that Macon was not getting its due like it used to in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s,” Producer Joey Stuckey said.

He’s doing his part to change the scene.

“The bands that we have are top notch. I mean the talent is just amazing. I can’t explain how much talent there is here,” Stuckey said.

Ten artists including Lisa Danielle will be featured on the first ever Macon music CD.

“NewTown is all about increasing residents, growing jobs, and creating a sense of place. Creating sense of place has room for cool projects like this,” NewTown Macon CEO Josh Rogers said.

Stuckey says Macon has as much talent now as it did decades ago.

“You had Wet Willie, the Allman Brothers, Otis Redding, Little Richard — all these amazing artists,” Stuckey said.

Judges selected the artists through a submission contest. Nearly 30 applied.

“When we put those ratings together, a clear consensus emerged for the top ten artists. It just so happened to be incredible diversity in the artists themselves and the type of music they were performing,” Rogers said.

“These guys are good enough to be up here,” Stuckey said.

He is producing the CD at his ‘Shadow Sound Studio.’ The artists will get a chance to write and perfect a unique track to contribute.

“…everything from singer/songwriter, rock, blues, a little sort of a jazzy blues feel, hip hop and R&B, rap. It’s a real great variety. You’re going to love something on the record,” Stuckey said.

Organizers say it’s an opportunity to expose the artists to the community and the world with a different beat.

“I feel like we can build up that music infrastructure again, and we can make this a synergistic place where people are going to want to come to have a career,” Stuckey said.

The plan is for all ten artists to record throughout the summer and for the free CS to be released in September. The singers and performers will have a concert in Macon when the album debuts. Stuckey says he hopes the CD will become an annual tradition to showcase talent.
