Eighteen inmates at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center are facing additional charges in connection to a June 4 incident that left one person dead.

UPDATE (7/11/2025): Eighteen inmates at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center are facing additional charges in connection to a June 4 incident that left one person dead.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, investigators were notified by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation that further charges have been filed following continued investigation into the case. Several inmates are now charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis released the following statement:
“This was an appalling act of violence committed by a number of individuals who are accused of violent acts on our streets. This incident makes it clear that they can become just as violent in jail. We are grateful that all inmates involved in this incident are being held responsible. My heartfelt appreciation goes out to all the hard-working law enforcement officers from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation who worked tirelessly to bring these eighteen inmates to justice.”
UPDATE: The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says a total of five inmates were injured during Wednesday’s altercation inside the Bibb County Jail. Two of them remain hospitalized in stable condition, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working with the sheriff’s office in the investigation.
According to a news release, the injured inmates were identified as:
- 40-year-old Willie James Haugabrook III
- 19-year-old Brandon Carnell Willis
- 22-year-old Breele Jahiem Johnson
- 22-year-old Stacey Motez Mathews
- 22-year-old Isaiah Joshua Bailey
Johnson was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead. Haugabrook III and Willis are both listed in stable condition at the hospital.
Mathews and Bailey were treated by jail medical staff.
UPDATE: This marks the third inmate death reported at the Bibb County Jail in 2025, along with multiple violent incidents, reports of lice and scabies and ongoing complaints about conditions inside the more than 45-year-old facility. In recent months, leaders have announced new protocols and the exploration of plans for renovations or a new facility.
UPDATE: Macon-Bibb Coroner Leon Jones says a total of three people were stabbed Wednesday. One died, and two are being treated, according to Jones.
At this time, the sheriff’s office has not confirmed details outside of its original news release.
UPDATE: Macon-Bibb Coroner Leon Jones says one inmate has died after an altercation inside the Bibb County Jail on Wednesday.
Jones identified the inmate as Breele Jahiem Johnson and said his family has been notified.
Jail records show Johnson is 22 years old and was booked into the Bibb County Jail in June 2023. His listed charges include aggravated assault, theft by receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an “aggravated assault incident” involving “several inmates” Wednesday afternoon inside the Bibb County Jail.
According to a news release, “several inmates” were injured.
Deputies say the family members of the injured inmates will be personally contacted by jail staff.
