1 Dead, 2 Taken to Hospital After Head-On Collision

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One man is dead and two people are in the hospital after a head-on collision Monday in East Macon.

The accident happened just after 6 p.m. on a bridge on Jeffersonville Road near Artic Circle.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says a Honda Civic collided with a Toyota Highlander.  The driver of the Civic, 32-year-old Daniel Dewayne Cassidy of Jones County, died on the scene. When 41NBC was there, Macon-Bibb firefighters were still working to free Cassidy’s body from the car.

Jones says a 10-year-old boy who was riding in the Civic was complaining of abdominal pains, but he’s listed as stable at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

The driver of the Toyota Highlander, 52-year-old Valerie Hicks of Macon, was also taken to the Medical Center for observation.  She too is listed in stable condition.

Jones says blood samples will be taken from both drivers as part of the accident investigation.
