BS Report: 1st Place Braves Face the White Sox

On the road down in South Georgia. Let’s talk a little Braves baseball, where tonight the Braves will be back in action after a day off. On Monday, they will play the Chicago White Sox in Game one of a three game series. The White Sox are a very improved team, but of course, the Braves have the best record in baseball by three games over the Dodgers.

The Braves continue to play just in it elite level, really, and they continue to be on pace for about 108 wins. We’ll see if they can keep that pace up or not. Grant Holmes will be on the mound for Atlanta tonight in game one of the series. The Braves, with that nine game lead over the Phillies in the National League Eastern Division.

It’s comfortable, but but look, I think this team knows because of the history of this rivalry with Philadelphia that you can’t get too comfortable. You have to be very careful about easing up on the gas because, for example, you lose a three game series to someone and the Phillies sweep someone. You’re all of a sudden six games back.

Then it gets uncomfortable. So things can change quickly in baseball. But the Braves have showed no reason to believe they’re going to have some horrible spin out of control slump or anything, either offensively or with the pitching. The bullpen continues, I think, to be the main story here. The bullpen has the best team ERA in baseball and the trio of Brazil Iglesias, Robert Suarez, Dylan Lee has been unbelievable with the Sub1 era.

And of course, you add on top of that with Didier Fuentes and Dylan Dodd have done that is amazing to have those five individuals in that bullpen shutting things down late in the game. There is no question about that. The offense continues to play very well. Of course, Michael Harris doing great things, probably on his way to an all star game.

Of course you see Mauricio Dubon, the contributions from him have been great. So they are just getting so many people on this roster to contribute on a nightly basis, and that’s why they’re winning. That’s why it’s hard to beat this team. And you have to think that the opposing teams are sitting there saying, okay, well, if we’re going to get to him, we got to get to them early because that bullpen is going to shut us down.

And then how do we keep them from scoring? Because they’re scoring at a pretty elite level right now as well. Not as elite as the Georgia Bulldogs, who, of course, are headed to the College World Series later this week. We know that the Bulldogs are going to have a tough opponent in the Texas Longhorns, another SEC opponent who have had a great season.

The Longhorns are a very good team. They’ve got some really good pitchers themselves, along with a couple of hitters that are probably going to be drafted next month. So it’s going to be a struggle when Georgia plays Texas for game one of that college world Series coming up on Saturday night in Omaha, but it should be a fun weekend.

Race will be playing the Mets in New York, and the dogs will be on the road in Omaha for the college World Series.
