First Player from Veterans High School Commits on Signing Day

KATHLEEN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Veterans High School in Houston County had it's very first college football recruit.

Corner Back, Corey Parks, signed with NAIA school, Point University.  It's just the second varsity football season for the Warhawks. Parks tells 41 NBC he hopes to start a long tradition of Warhawk players taking their talents to the collegiate level.  "I get to say I was the first... It's all about tradition up here, and legacies that you leave behind," said Parks.

Defensive Coordinator of the Veterans Football team, Scott Lamb told 41NBC, "Corey really grew from last year to this year and became an excellent cover corner. Corey's best attribute is really his speed, and that's something he parlayed into a college arena. "

Corey plans to major in business and open a vegan restaurant when he graduates.

Schools To Play In Separate Subregions After Brawl

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - The two schools involved in a post-game brawl that left a high school football coach severely injured will now play in different subregions.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that the Georgia High School Association's Reclassification Committee hasmoved Hancock Central to a different subregion in Region 7-A to separate it from Warren County.

GHSA Executive Director Ralph Swearngin says people in the region thought it was best to have the two schools in different subregions.

Last month, a Hancock County grand jury decided not to indict anyone after Warren County Coach David Daniel was hurt. Daniel suffered crushed bones in his face and had metal plates implanted
in his head following his team's 21-2 win over Hancock Central on Oct. 14.

Westside Lineman Signs with Valdosta State

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) - Westside's Isaiah Booker signed to play for Valdosta State today. "I'm gonna keep a level head. I ain't gonna do anything stupid. I'm gonna remember everything they taught me," said Booker after the ceremonial signing.

Head Coach Sheddrick Risper says Booker will be a great asset as a lineman there.  Risper told 41NBC, "we expect for Isaiah to go in and be an immediate contributor. He has great ability--he's a tough kid, and he has a great passion for the game."

Booker's parents say he excelled on the field as a left tackle, and they're excited to see him perform off the field, and further his education at Valdosta State.
