WR Councilman John Williams Pleads Not Guilty in Stolen Cell Phone Incident
Early Wednesday morning, Warner Robins City Councilman John Williams plead not guilty for lying to police claiming his city issued cell phone was stolen. The alleged incident occurred in June of last year, while investigating the theft, police found inconsistencies in Williams’ story. Williams says he wants to go to trial to clear what he calls a misunderstanding. A special prosecution has been brought in from the Dublin Judicial Circuit to avoid a conflict of interest. Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney, Brandon Faircloth, says he is confident in the evidence the prosecution holds, and says a list of witnesses already exists. Williams’ attorney, Charles Cox, says he believes the trial will go smoothly and find Williams not guilty. Both sides say, Councilman Williams will not get special treatment because he is an elected official. No trial date has been set. If Williams is convicted of the felony charge of falsifying statements he could get probation or even jail time.
