Woolfolk Site Renamed as “The Fort Valley Festival Park”

FORT VALLEY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The city of Fort Valley is using the former site of the Woolfolk Chemical Plant as a place to throw some big parties.

At a called meeting Monday morning, council named the site “The Fort Valley Festival Park.” Mayor John Stumbo says this area was the perfect spot to host festivals to keep Main Street clear of congestion.

The area has been revamped with new sources of power and water. Stumbo says the first phase of this project was funded privately. He says they’ll keep looking for outside funds to pay for a play yard, picnic area, and eventually a band-stand.

“Our ability to maintain those festivals depends upon how well we host them. So we want to make sure our facilities are top rate,” says Stumbo.

The first festival that will be held in the newly named park is the Hambone Jam. The BBQ competition will hit Fort Valley September 7th and 8th.
