Woman fatally shot while inside vehicle near Piedmont Park

ATLANTA (AP) – Police say a woman was fatally shot while inside a car near a popular park in Atlanta.

Local news media report Wednesday that 63-year-old Diane McIver died in surgery at Emory Hospital early Monday after the shooting occurred near Piedmont Park. McIver was the president of Corey Airport Services, a marketing company based in Atlanta.

McIver’s company is known for its 300-foot billboard in the downtown area. She worked with the company for 43 years.

Atlanta Police spokeswoman Kim Jones says McIver was riding in a car with people she knew when a firearm was discharged inside the vehicle. A police incident report states McIver was in the passenger seat at the time of the shooting.

Police have not named the other people in the vehicle.
