Wolf Creek Landfill Will Expand
The Twiggs County Board of Commissioners voted today to allow Advanced Disposal, the company that owns the Wolf Creek Landfill, to rezone 124 acres of land for storage.
The new land will be used to hold materials like concrete, rocks, and pipes.
Citizens were upset and felt the board did not listen to their concerns and had its mind made up before the vote happened.
Resident Jerry Fincher says the board knew before coming into today’s meeting what how they were going to vote.
Fincher says, “This thing today is false. It was a done deal before it even started…We will take care of it when election time comes.”
Residents who live around the landfill are worried the materials stored in the newly rezoned land, will ruin the quality of water by leaking toxins into the ground. Toxins they say, will leak into the wells where they get their water.
Mary O’Brian of Advanced Disposal says there will be absolutely no waste that will go into this new expansion area. It will strictly be materials like concrete, clay, soil, and things like old pipes.
