Witness: Driver Was Speeding in Triple Fatal Crash
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Three people are dead after a single-car crash in Macon early Saturday morning and witnesses say the driver was speeding.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones identified the victims as Sherry Sherie Bishop, 38 of Gray; Derwin Durden, 45 of Covington and Temple Dumas, 40 of Raleigh, N.C.
According to Jones, Bishop was driving a 2004 Chevy Impala, when the car went through parking lot of the Marathon gas station at Pio Nono Avenue and Houston Avenue. The car hit a curb, a yield sign and a light pole before flipping on it’s roof.
Demetrius Marks was with his friend Durden and the rest of the group Friday night at the club. He said he saw the whole thing happen. Marks said when they left the club, Bishop was speeding.
“She was going fast,” Marks said pointing towards the intersection of Houston Avenue and Pio Nono Avenue.
Marks said Bishop lost control of the car and sped of the road. When he arrived on the scene, he saw Durden ejected from the car.
“And I saw my best friend, laying on the ground,” Marks said, “it was devestating to me.”
Shortly after, the car caught fire. Marks now wishes Durden rode home with him that fatal night.
“He should’ve got in the car with me,” Marks said, “I feel like he would still be with us today.”
