Winter Storm Forces MTA To Shut Down

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The winter snow storm has forced the Macon Transit Authority (MTA) to shut down.

Absolutely, no buses are scheduled to run tomorrow, and MTA employees are asked not to report to work until further notice, according to bus company’s Operations Manager, Jade Daniels.

“We were planning to have the buses running by 10 a.m.,but that all changed about an hour ago,” said Daniels. “We will have an update by 5 p.m., on Thursday. If we get a good thawing out perhaps we will be back at work Thursday but we’ll just have to wait and see.”

The city buses normally run late into the night and early in the mornings, but the route times changed. MTA bus services ended at 8 p.m., Tuesday.

Rick Jones, MTA’s  CEO, says he is cutting about three hours of route times off the normal schedule.

“We think that we can get through about 8 o’clock tonight so our plans are to continue service as we have it now up until 8 o’clock and then close the service down at eight,” said Jones on Tuesday.

MTA will also provide buses for Emergency Medical Services, which has crews working to keep Middle Georgians safe.
